16. Navigating Rural Finance with Tim Findlay from Cato Advisory

In this episode Emily chats with Tim Findlay, Managing Director of Cato Advisory about all things rural finance!

Tim is an experienced financial services professional with more than 20 years of experience in global investment banking, corporate lending and agribusiness.

After growing up on a small farm in Cowra in the NSW Central West, Tim attended CSU in Bathurst before embarking on a career in Sydney, Dublin and London with the likes of the Commonwealth Bank, Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, and Lloyds Banking Group. His desire to be closer to family and a lifelong connection with rural Australia led him to join Westpac Agribusiness in 2013 where he completed transactions for clients ranging from small family farm enterprises to ASX-listed corporate agribusinesses and investment funds.

In 2022, Tim founded Cato Advisory to deliver where other regional finance and advisory firms could not: holistic, dynamic and proactive strategic business support focused on the future health and direction of rural and regional businesses.

Tim lives in Young, NSW with his wife Clare and three young children. He is an enthusiastic musician and loves playing golf and coaching junior rugby and cricket. He is a director and the current treasurer of the Western Region Academy of Sport.

Tim is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) and holds a Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management, a Bachelor of Business from Charles Sturt University, and a Master of Applied Finance from Macquarie University. He is also a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia.
